Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Chelsea and Manchester City striker target Edinson Cavani, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

Cavani has established himself as one of the finest forwards in Europe with 25 goals for Napoli in as many games this season, and has been linked with a move away Naples in recent seasons.

Manchester City and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the Uruguayan forward, but now Real Madrid appear to be in the driving seat for the 25-year-old's signature.

According to Sport, Madrid have reached an agreement with Cavani following a series of meetings in Madrid between club president Florentino Perez and Cavani's agent, Pierpaolo Triulzi.

However Real Madrid are yet to agree a fee with Napoli, with the Italian club holding out for a suitor to activate his €63 million release clause.

The Newspaper report that Madrid have submitted an offer of €50 million and are willing to include a player as part of the deal, however Napoli want cash up front to let their star striker go.

Madrid's move for Cavani could still be derailed by Paris Saint-Germain's interest in the striker which could drive his price up say Sport, while CNN claim that Manchester City and Chelsea are still in with a chance of getting their man.

Mario Balotelli's departure from the Etihad Stadium during the January transfer window means that the Citizens will most likely seek to bring in a striker over the summer.

Chelsea meanwhile, could let the mis-firing Fernando Torres leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season in order to facilitate a move for a new forward.

Both clubs, along with PSG and Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao, who may also been on the move in the summer.
