It has become a reoccurring story in England and Spain that Ronaldo is set to leave Real Madrid?

And a return to Manchester United is a much talked about destination.

Ronaldo showed great respect against his former employers during the first leg of their Champions League encounter at The Bernabeu.

Despite scoring with a towering header that left the United defence static, Ronaldo only acknowledged the Madrid fans with a simple hand gesture.

And following the 1-1 draw, Ronaldo was pictured chatting to former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson, and reports emerged that the Portuguese star sat in the United dressing room following the final whistle.

Former Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes that Ronaldo will make a decision regarding his future in the summer.

He said: "I think Ronaldo has rejected the chance to talk about a new deal because, at the end of the year, he will wait and see what his future looks like at Real Madrid.

"In the last years of a deal you have to renew the contract or sell the player, otherwise there’s no value for the club."

With just over two years remaining  on his deal, come the summer, this could be Madrid's chance to recoup some of the huge £80 million they paid for Ronaldo in 2009.

With talks of their new sponsorship deal with Chevrolet being moved forward a year, United may have the finances to offer Real and Ronaldo a deal to bring him back to the Theatre of Dreams.

Having called it "home" in the past, United fans all over the globe would relish the chance to see Ronaldo back at the Club where he announced himself to the World, and became arguably one of the best players on the planet.
