Why Rooney and Manchester United are the perfect partnership

Wayne Rooney can break many records at Manchester United

Wayne Rooney is a great asset to Manchester United and the club certainly realise this.

They have proven over a number of years how such a good partnership they are. United have benefited from having such a world class player in their ranks and Rooney has benefited from the support and opportunity the club have given him.

United clearly know Rooney's worth to the team and can see the influence he has over the team with his performances and attitude. United see Rooney as a very unselfish player, willing to play in most positions for the good of the team. An attribute that is a rarity in football and priceless.

Over the years Wayne Rooney has produced some fantastic performances and United know that these performances will continue for many years to come. They will not want to risk selling Rooney to a rival who could also benefit from these performances, possibly at United's expense.

United have developed Rooney from the raw talent they signed from Everton to the top class player he is now. Why would they want to throw this all away now? Whilst Rooney continues to perform on the field and behave off it I can see no reason why Manchester United will want to sell the England star who is, arguably, their best player.

Rooney himself must be reluctant to leave the club that has given him so much. Sir Alex Ferguson has been the major influence on his career so far. He is a father figure to him and has imparted much of his knowledge to help him through a career that has brought him so much success, fame and fortune. Without Fergie's guiding hand, would Rooney be the player he is today?

Why would Rooney want to leave a club like Manchester United? The club are constantly on the hunt for all major honours season after season. Glory can never be guaranteed but Manchester United are never far away from it.

If Rooney did leave the club where would he go? I don't see Rooney signing for a rival of Manchester United's in the Premier League so the only real options are to go abroad to a giant in European football, such as Real Madrid or Barcelona.

However, Rooney is also a family man now and is happily married and settled in the north-west. Would he want to jeopardise all this with a move abroad?

There is a feeling of unfinished business for Rooney at Old Trafford. I get the impression that Rooney wants to break as many records as he can at United and be remembered as one of the all time greats. Watching the accolades and praise received by fellow United player Ryan Giggs this season has perhaps spurred him on even more.

I think both parties have a lot of respect for each other and can see the worth of continuing their relationship for many more years.

United know that Wayne Rooney can bring them further success and equally Rooney knows that his hunt for more trophies, fame and fortune will no doubt continue in United's colours. They seem the perfect partnership to me and long may it continue.
