Doncaster Rovers moved ever closer to the npower League 1 title as they secured a 3-2 win at Scunthorpe that ensured Brian Flynn's team went five points clear at the summit.

With Sheffield United and Brentford both having the weekend off because of the weather, Doncaster had the chance to climb ahead of their opponents - and they did just that. Doncaster were rampant early on, and put Scunthorpe to the sword from the off, scoring two 1st half goals.

The first came after only five minutes when David Cotterill slammed in a low cross and Scunthorpe defender David Mirfin could only put the ball through his own net.

35 minutes later and Doncaster had doubled their lead. On-loan Preston striker Iain Hume found himself one-on-one with Iron keeper Johansen and the Canadian international made no mistake. However, Scunthorpe replied instantly. Mark Duffy found himself standing over a 25 yard free-kick, and the Englishman curled a sublime strike into the top corner to reduce the deficit as half time approached.

Doncaster came out for the second half as strongly as they started the first, scoring after only three minutes. This time, Chris Brown capitalised on a James Husband cross to finish neatly  for Rovers to regain their 2 goal lead.

Five minutes from time, Scunthorpe mounted a mini recovery with Karl Hawley replying with a somewhat untidy effort. But it wasn't enough for the Iron as Doncaster increased their lead at the top of the table.
