Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Robin van Persie can find his goal-scoring form once again and end his recent barren spell.

The Dutch international’s run without goals now stretches to nine Premier League games for Manchester United and represents his first dip in form for over two years.

Van Persie had made a strong start to his career at Manchester United with 19 goals in the team’s first 26 games and has a total of 23 goals in all competitions. His last United goal came in the 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on 10th February.

He has featured in every game for Manchester United in the league this season and there is a suggestion from some quarters that the striker is getting tired.

But Sir Alex Ferguson has moved quickly to quash the rumours that the player is fatigued and backs Van Persie to be on the score-sheet soon.

He told the BBC: "The goals will come, all strikers have dry spells and you hope it ends quickly, it's part of being a striker.

“He doesn't need a rest that's for sure, he's a strong lad with great physique.”

Given Manchester United’s 15 point lead in the league Ferguson might be forgiven for not being too concerned by Van Persie’s lack of form but it seems evident that Van Persie is in need of a long rest after two full seasons sandwiching the Euro 2012.
