Arsenal assistant manager and former centre back Steve Bould, is hoping that midfielder Abou Diaby, can recover from his latest injury setback and come back stronger than ever.

The midfield man who has had a torrid time with injuries in the last seven years has picked up his most recent injury in training after he tore his anterior cruciate ligaments, which will see him miss eight or nine months of action.

In his seven years at Arsenal, Abou Diaby has suffered many, many injuries and has never been able to sustain his fitness for a whole season.

When signed from French side Auxerre, Diaby was labelled as a natural successor to Patrick Vieira, but injury upon injury has hampered his progression to the extent that could end his Arsenal career.

Despite another setback which will see him out of action for nearly 10 months, Arsenal's assistant, Steve Bould, believes the 26-year-old can still have a successful career at the club and believes he could use his lay-offs to his advantage and come back stronger than ever before.

“I've spoken to him very briefly,” the assistant manager told Arsenal Player.

“I saw him just before he went for his scan. It's dreadful news for Abou.

“As we all know, he's had seven years of injuries and it takes a huge character to come back. Maybe it's a chance for him to correct everything that was going wrong. That's the positive that he can go forward with.

“He might use the seven or eight months to get rid of all those injuries that he was struggling with. We're all hoping and praying that he comes back a better player.”
