David Beckham admits he is hoping to start once against for Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

The former England captain was a surprise inclusion from the start in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, playing 70 minutes for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the 2-2 draw.

And, after playing a part in Zlatan Ibrahimovich’s goal against Rennes at the weekend, Beckham is again hoping to get the nod at a venue where he’s had both successes and failures as a player.

"I do not know (if I'll start) - I'm not the coach. Of course I want to start but that's the same for all players in these big games. We'll see," he told Le 10 Sport.

The 37-year-old received mixed reviews for his performance in the first leg, with the French media critical of his display.

However, the general consensus suggested that Beckham was solid – if unspectacular – in a more defensive role against the La Liga leaders.

And, with Blaise Matuidi suspended for the clash at the Nou Camp, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star could get his wish with a start in a similar position in Catalonia.

Beckham only joined Les Parisiens in January, but could help his side secure a famous double, with PSG seven points clear of Marseille in the Ligue 1 table.
