Manchester United to cash in on Nemanja Vidic?

Nemanja Vidic has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but should United let him go?

Manchester United's captain Nemanja Vidic has been at the heart of the Red Devils defence for the large part of seven years.

However, the rumour mill has suggested that United are ready to cash in on the big Serbian while he still has some value and a £10 million move could be on the cards.

But can United afford to let him leave ?

Over the last few seasons Vidic has suffered more long term injuries than in previous seasons so perhaps the club feel that his time is up.

In Phil Jones they do have a young player of outstanding quality, who was even United's best player in Monday's Manchester derby defeat.

Jonny Evans has, at times, emerged as first choice ahead of Ferdinand and Vidic, and Chris Smalling is another of great promise, but he also picks up his fair share of injuries.

Vidic has been a rock at the heart of United's defence since joining from Spartak Moscow in 2006.

However the Serbian is currently 31 so if United are to get a transfer fee for him now is the time - but the fans would certainly be sorry to see him go.

The giant is the current captain, though with his appearances somewhat limited, that honour has more often fallen on Patrice Evra in recent times.

If Vidic does go it will certainly be a sad day United and will spell an end to one of the greets partnerships (Ferdinand - Vidic) in Premier League history.
