Football's cliche dealers say a goalkeeper has nothing to lose when facing a penalty; that he can only be a hero if he saves it. While that is true, Tom Starke of Bayern Munich has just taken being a penalty hero to another level.

The Bavarian side are already Bundesliga champions and have an important Cup semi-final on Tuesday, so some of their reserves got a run out.

One of those was Manuel Neuer’s understudy Starke and, while he may have little chance of ousting the Germany number one, he certainly made a name for himself.

Bayern routed FC Nurnberg 4-0 in a straightforward win, but the highlight of the match was provided by Starke when he faced a second half penalty.

No, literally; the 32-year-old saved a penalty with his face. Nurnberg midfielder Timmy Simons had the chance to make the score 3-1 early in the second half from the spot.

Ok, Bayern are rampant at the moment and a goal was unlikely to spark a comeback but you have to give credit to Starke for making himself the most talked about player in a game his team won 4-0.

A clean sheet is what every goalkeeper craves and Starke showed true determination to make sure he had one.

Another impressive aspect of it was his reaction; Starke got up and accepted his teammates' congratulations without even flinching, not even a blink.
