Arsenal have been dealt a significant blow in their apparent pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze, after the agent of the Germany international claimed his client is not entertaining the prospect of leaving the Westfalenstadion during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to break their transfer record in order to secure the signature of Gotze, while the 20-year-old has also been linked with Manchester City and Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger is ready to abandon his usual frugal transfer window spending to smash the fee paid to sign Andrey Arshavin and meet the buyout clause of Gotze, which stands at €37 million.

Arsenal, however, may struggle to convince the young playmaker to leave Dortmund for the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, after his agent dismissed any speculation that Gotze is looking to leave the Champions League semi-finalists.

"Mario has not even thought about leaving Dortmund in 2013," Volker Struth told the Daily Mail. "He is totally not interested in that and will stay at least another season."

Gotze is under contract with Dortmund until 2016, having signed an extension to his deal less than 12 months ago, and the German has previously stated that any thoughts of leaving the club are 'very much for the future'.

Having made his first-team debut in 2009, the BVB academy product has now clocked up 113 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals, and has 22 caps for Germany.
