Manchester City keeper Joe Hart hasn't enjoyed the best of seasons but still the England number one is gunning for his third consecutive Golden Glove award.

As we enter the home straight of the Premier League season, Hart leads the race with 14 clean sheets - three more than his closest rival, Chelsea stopper Petr Cech.

The race for the Golden Glove, purely decided on the volume of clean sheets, is an imperfect way to measure a goalkeepers performance.

But, looking at the top 5 candidates so far, it's pretty clear that it is a good way to separate the elite keepers from the rest.

No-one would dispute that these top five candidates, Hart, Cech, Pepe Reina, Asmir Begovic and David De Gea, are the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Hugo Lloris, Julio Cesar, Simon Mignolet and Tim Krul are all on the cusp of this group, and may crack it next year, but at the moment, these five have the most clean sheets and have clustered towards the top of the league - with the notable exception of Begovic.

So lets break down each keeper's claim to win the Golden Glove…
