True to form, Wigan have done yet again and come good towards the end of the season. However, this time they have used that good form to reach their first ever FA Cup final.

Until now, they have faced a reasonably easy run to the final with the only surprising victory coming against Everton in the sixth round.

Their last hurdle, however, is by far the biggest. In order to secure a famous victory they will have to beat current Premier League champions Manchester City.

We look at the top five players who will play a key role if Wigan are to spring a surprise on the North-East neighbours.

Joel Robles

Robles was signed as cover for Ali Al Hasi in January but has since staked a claim for a first team place. His spectacular form has seen him replace the once crucial Al Habsi and he will have to continue that form in the final. With City's attacking might of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez, Robles will no doubt be kept busy, but will he be up to the challenge?

Gary Caldwell

Caldwell has tremendous experience in the English game and he will definitely need to use that to martial the defence. He'll have to use his knowledge and understanding of the game to interpret the play of Aguero and co.

James McCarthy

The Republic of Ireland youngster has incredible potential and has the eyes of most top clubs in the country on him. This cup final would be the perfect venue to showcase his talent. His drive, enthusiasm, and sheer class is going to be vital if Wigan are to win their first FA Cup.

Shaun Maloney

The Scotland international has scored some vital goals this season (including their opener in the FA Cup semi-final against Millwall) and he has also proved he can produce a goal even when he isn't performing to his maximum. As one of Wigan's most deadly players, he may be the one they look to for a bit of magic.

Arouna Kone

Wigan's Ivory Coast international has had a very strong first season in the Barclays Premier League and is Wigan's top scorer. As well as clinical finishing, power and pace, Kone has great experience and can be the man to lead them to victory. Kone will need strong support from his midfield colleagues.

The stage is set for Wigan Athletic to stage a huge cup shock. But even with the magic of the FA Cup, the chances of victory are slim. Roberto Martinez will need all of the above to perform at their very best if they are to stand any chance of taking home the trophy.
