Red Bull Salzburg star Jonathan Soriano was the toast of the terraces at the weekend, after the Spanish striker cut short his personal celebrations following the birth of his third child, to score a second-half hat-trick in a 6-2 victory against rivals Wolfsberger.

The 27-year-old's timely return kept Roger Schmidt's side in the hunt for the Austrian Bundesliga title, with the hosts being held 2-2 at half-time.

Former Barcelona star Soriano was inspired by the joyous news that initially looked like ruling him out of the crunch clash, after his wife had been rushed to hospital earlier that weekend.

But, having witnessed the birth of baby daughter Abril just hours before kick-off, it soon became clear that the new father was on his way back to the Red Bull Arena.

After a brief moment of congratulations from his team-mates and coaches on the touchline, Soriano wasted little time in making his mark on the game, taking just four minutes to put Salzburg ahead with a neat lob over the opposing goalkeeper.

Fellow hat-trick hero, Alan, made it 4-2 in the 57th minute - adding to his two first-half strikes - before Soriano expertly converted a corner into a goal with a bullet near-post header.

Then, with less than five minutes remaining the Spaniard completed his treble with a well-taken goal from eight yards out, to put the icing on a memorable weekend on and off the field.

"This is an incredible day for me," said Soriano after the game. "Having the chance to play and three goals, I think I will not forget any time soon."

Watch highlights of the dramatic encounter between Red Bull Salzburg and Wolfsberger in the video below - and hats off to Soriano for not giving in on three occasions to the traditionally boring 'baby celebration'.
