Ecuador and Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia has stated that he wishes to retire in a Manchester United shirt, despite transfer rumours that have surrounded him all season.

Valencia has made 35 appearances this season for Manchester United, scoring one goal in the process. But the Ecuadorian, who has featured heavily in Sir Alex Ferguson's team this season, has played down the rumours that have suggested he was looking to leave the club in the summer.

"Neither the club or the coach have said anything about leaving Manchester United. I think it was a rumour that came about in Ecuador more than anywhere else," Valencia told Spanish Radio station La Deportiva.

"Manchester is my home, and I would like to stay here for a lot longer and retire here before going back to Ecuador," added Valencia.

Valencia has had a wholly successful season this year, with Manchester United yesterday winning their 20th Barclay's Premier league title in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, and Valencia was confident United can continue their successes.

"I am very happy, this is my second championship here. I have the confidence that the coach has given me and when you go into a match with the confidence of the team, it gives you extra motivation," he said.

Valencia has also had a successful year internationally, and is confident that Ecuador can qualify for the upcoming World Cup.

"We have two difficult games coming up, but they are six points and two games that could give us qualification."
