Tottenham have pulled out of the race to land Hamburg starlet Heung-min Son, according to reports.

The highly-rated South Korean has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in Germany, and has been linked with a host of Premier League suitors.

Spurs appeared to be at the head of the queue for the 20-year-old's signature and recent reports suggested the deal was close to being completed.

However it now appears as though the north London club have ended their interest in Son.

Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles reports that although Spurs have been watching Son closely and were primed to make a move for the talented youngster in the summer, they have opted to pull out of the race because he doesn't fit Andre Villas-Boas' long-term tactical plan.

Writing for, Castle's reports that Villas-Boas' move towards a dual-striker system doesn't lend itself well to Son's characteristics, and so the Portuguese coach has opted to look elsewhere.

It is also claimed Villas-Boas has a transfer hit-list drawn up for the summer - which doesn't include Porto's Christian Atsu despite recent reports otherwise -  but his budget will be dependent on whether Spurs achieve Champions League qualification.

Son may well find that his future lies in the Bundesliga - but with Borussia Dortmund who are said to be interested in landing the young forward.
