It's been another vintage Premier League season, with plenty of players surprising us all over the last nine months.

Here are the top five surprise packages of the campaign:

5. Marouane Fellaini

The 6ft 4in Belgium international hadn’t been too prolific in his time at Everton since his £15m move from Standard Liège, but this season was his rise to the top.

His powerful presence and immense ability in the air has been a major factor in the Toffees' successful season. Thirteen goals in all competitions from the Belgian has attracted attention from the likes of Chelsea, Anzhi Makhachkala and Zenit St. Petersburg and it’s hard to see how they are going to be able to the huge midfielder.

4. Dimitar Berbatov

At the beginning of the season not many would have predicted that the Bulgarian international would be playing at Craven Cottage come the end of the campaign.

The 30-year-old has a proven goalscoring record at every club he’s played at, yet still no one could have seen the Fulham star scoring more goals than Wayne Rooney this season. The effortlessness that we see from Berbatov really makes you appreciate the skill and brilliance that we he possesses, meaning that he definitely deserves a place on the list.

3. Pablo Zabaleta

It is hard to become an established wing-back wherever you are in the world, let alone in the Premier League with some of the best wingers to play the beautiful game.

The Argentine, however, has been one of the few standout defenders from a, by their high standards, poor Manchester City side. Not only has the 28-year-old won the hearts of the fans, he’s won the captain's armband. His effort and ability to put a stop the some of the best wingers in the league has made him one of the best right backs in the Premier League.

2. Raheem Sterling

The previously unknown Liverpool winger made the headlines at the beginning of the season after putting in a string of performances, as well as his link-up play with striker Luis Suarez.

The England youngster got a call-up to the England squad for his debut against Serbia in October and has made the list not just for his pace, but for his willingness and confidence to run at players.

1. Michu

The previously unknown 27-year-old made a name for himself this year in the Premier League with 21 goals in his 38 games. The striker, who had only had one season’s experience of top flight football before this year, has been the real surprise package of England’s top flight.

The £2m striker has made a name for himself with his positioning and influential presence, and despite some of the best clubs in Europe sniffing around he recently signed a four-year contract with the club from south Wales.
