Arsenal winger Theo Walcott waited for former teammate Robin van Persie in the tunnel after Sunday’s clash and swapped shirts with him – avoiding the outrage suffered from Andre Santos.

The full-back was pilloried by a large number of Gunners after he swapped shirts with the Dutchman at half time of Manchester United’s win at Old Trafford in December.

According to the Daily Mail, Walcott showed a little more nous than his Brazilian colleague by waiting until he was out of the glare of the cameras and supporters.

Walcott and Van Persie scored the goals in the 1-1 draw between the teams and the former Arsenal captain suffered boos and jeers throughout the match.

He didn’t let it affect him when stepping up to take the penalty that levelled the match late in the first half.

It was Van Persie that was brought down for the penalty after a poor back pass from Bacary Sagna allowed him to run into the Arsenal area, before the France international rashly brought him down.

It was a disappointing end to a positive first half for Arsene Wenger’s men, in which Walcott had given them the lead after only two minutes.
