The England international was voted into the Professional Footballers' Association Team of the Year for the second time in consecutive seasons and felt immense pride to be honoured once again.

“It’s always nice to be acknowledged by your fellow professionals and it’s great to be in the PFA team amongst so many quality players,” he told the official Everton website.

“I actually think that we could have had a few of our lads in there this season."

Baines was partnered in the PFA Team of the Year defence with Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur) and Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United) whilst consistent Argentine Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City) was voted in at right-back.

The rascal barnet of the England defender has countlessly bounced up and down the wing of various Premier League grounds this season, but the set-piece specialist is not getting carried away by the acknowledgement of his ability as there's still a few games left to play this season.

Everton's remaining fixtures, all played on the Sabbath, include the important Merseyside derby against Liverpool, West Ham United at Goodison Park and then a final-day clash at Stamford Bridge.

Even though there is extra significance placed on the Merseyside clash with European qualification still possible for the Toffees, Baines says preparation for the game will be nothing different from the previous 35 Premier League fixtures.

“It’s just the same as always, It’s another game, we understand the importance. It’s a big game but everyone is professional and prepares for the game right," the Toffees' star added.

“It doesn’t warrant anything different. You do the right things when you are training and when you come away from training too, as always.”
