Manchester United will fund a move for Cristiano Ronaldo by asking the club’s major sponsors to help finance any deal.

According to ESPN, the Old Trafford club are very keen to recruit their former star and have been exploring numerous ways to make it happen.

The report claims Manchester United’s vastly improved commercial interests have led to Ferguson’s transfer budget being about £20million higher than any of the past five summers.

Despite this, a move for Ronaldo would still be a stretch at between £50million and £70million to prise him away from Real Madrid.

It also claims Manchester United were interested in using a player as part of the deal but Real Madrid rejected the notion that Wayne Rooney could go the other way.

The report also says that United officials felt sponsors would be open to the idea of helping them with the funding of the deal.

Kit suppliers Nike declined but Chevrolet have reportedly signalled their interest to Manchester United.

Bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford would be a massive transfer coup for Ferguson, especially as the report suggest big spending PSG are also readying a bid for the Portugal captain.
