West Ham United's Winston Reid signs a new contract with the Hammers

West Ham United have secured the long-term signature of defender Winston Reid.

Reid was a constant figure at the back when the Hammers secured promotion back to the Premier League last season, and has penned an extension until 2015.

The New Zealand centre-back has been a consistent performer for the Irons this season and is thought to be a West Ham player of the year candiate.

"It's an exciting time for the club - now we have to build on the progress we've made over the last two seasons," he told reporters after penning the deal.

Auckland-born Reid, a aerial threat from set-pieces, admits he's enjoyed his time in east London this far, and hopes to continue making his mark at Upton Park in the coming years.

"I've really enjoyed being here. It's a good club and we've done really well over the last couple of years. Now, I'm looking forward to the next two years," he told the official West Ham website.

It appears Sam Allardyce may also be offered a new deal to keep him as manager of the club after he secured the their status in the Premier League this term.

Both player and manager will hope to finish the current campaign on a high, with the Irons set to face Newcastle, Everton and Reading in their final three games of the season. A top-half finish is in sight.
