We can all understand that scoring a goal in a crucial continental clash could be an intensely emotional experience, but occasionally a bit of restraint is in order.

Boca Juniors midfielder Pablo Ledesma could have done with a bit of it last night in the Argentine side’s Copa Libertadores quarter-final clash with Corinthians.

Nicolas Blandi had given Boca the lead just before the hour of the first leg at La Bombanera, but the highlight of the game came in the last ten minutes.

It started with second half substitute Ledesma getting on the end of a shot parried by Corinthians’ goalkeeper Cassio and slotting the rebound home.

To say the 29-year-old was excited is an understatement; he charged off down the sidelines before removing his shirt and, well, showing it to the fans.

Ledesma’s face was a picture when he realised the goal actually hadn’t stood because the linesman had flagged him for offside.

He should really have known as replays show he was at least five yards beyond the last defender when the shot was hit and, even worse, he runs past the assistant referee that put up his flag.

Don’t worry, it gets worse; Ledesma is shown a yellow card for removing his shirt and this leads to his day getting really bad.

Just a few seconds later, probably still up to his eyeballs with adrenalin mixed with disappointment, the midfielder flies into a late challenge and promptly gets a second booking.

GMF doubts whether Ledesma will ever have a worse two minutes in his football career, especially after only being on the pitch for 20 minutes.
