Tottenham strikers to be shown the door this summer?

Tottenham opinion: Emmanuel Adebayor & Jermain Defoe not living up to expectations at White Hart Lane

Gareth Bale has scored more than both Tottenham Hotspur's strikers combined this season.

The above stat is clearly suggesting something, Spurs need strikers! Jermain Defoe started off the season well, scoring goals for fun and even grabbed goal of the month in November against West Ham, a fantastic run after being fouled, he carried on and blasted one unstoppable shot home.

Typical Defoe you could say! But, injury struck him. First he suffered in February with an ankle ligament injury and after he came back from that he suffered a muscle injury. He struggled to recover his previous form earlier in the season. He did score a fantastic goal against Manchester City, giving a flash of brilliance he showed many times this season.

Tottenham's other senior striker, Emmanuel Adebayor has really failed to get his season off the ground. He is the shadow of the man he was last season.

Who knows why he can't get back to last seasons form, perhaps his injuries put him off, maybe his pre-season a little interrupted or he could be suffering confidence issues. He has scored three goals this season, one of great importance, he scored the goal that kept Spurs in the Europa league in the 4-4 draw over at Milan (through on away goals).

It was a scrappy game, and the goal itself wasn't too clean either, but a goal nevertheless. Spurs went out on penalties against FC Basel after that, Emmanuel firing his penalty with a ridiculous run up straight over the bar and into row Z.

So, who do Spurs bring in? It's of great speculation, and wishing but still lets mull over some of Spurs' options. Internacional president Giovanni Luigi has stated that “Recently we talked with Tottenham, Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand we can exclude Napoli.”

Great news if all goes well for Tottenham fans, Leandro is a powerful Brazilian striker who would really boost Spurs' goal tally and would be a great target man for the Spurs' wingers to aim their crosses for, something Defoe can't really do because of his demeanour and something Adebayor can't do, because he's normally dropping back to find a pass.

Is a good striker all Spurs need to finish higher up the table? They've taken four points off the champions this season, and took three off Manchester City.

Could a star striker guarantee Champions League?
