Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has told the club's official TV channel that Bayern Munich were much the better side in both legs of their Champions League semi-final defeat.

The 7-0 aggregate scoreline - which is Barca's worst ever defeat in Europe - did suggest that Tito Vilanova's side was comprehensively beaten, and the Spanish midfielder reserved praise for this year's worthy finalists.

"Both the first and second legs were tough games, because of the results and because of the sensation left," Iniesta told Barca TV. "Bayern are fair finalists. They are in great form right now and that showed on the pitch.

"We got the feeling that they were better than us. The truth hurts. It hurts to know that we simply were not up to the job. All of us are drained by what happened there and here. Once again we have narrowly missed out on the final."

The World Cup winner suggested that he and his team-mates must learn from their experience against Bayern Munich, and come back stronger than ever in the 2013/14 campaign.

Lionel Messi's absence at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, and arguably at the Allianz Arena the previous week, played a key role in how everything turned out.

Barcelona were swept aside by the free-flowing Germans, as Jupp Heynckes's men gave the Catalans a taste of their own medicine. But, the creative midfielder hopes the squad will bounce back again next year.

"We have to congratulate Bayern and learn from what happened, to make sure that things work out better for us in the future," Iniesta added. "It goes to show how difficult it is to win.

"We have another game very soon. One thing does not change the other. We are very close to winning the league.

"After such a tough blow, it is sometimes hard to separate things. The other day I said that a season is not so bad if you win the league. I just hope we can win the title as soon as possible so we get back some feelings of happiness."
