Some players are blessed with quick feet or great vision, but some players just fit the good old number 9 role.

Famously played by the likes of Alan Shearer, Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba, the number 9's are traditionally known for their aerial dominance. Here we give the rundown of some of the best aerial machines currently playing in Europe:

1. Christian Benteke | Aston Villa

Christian Benteke has been somewhat of a revelation at Aston Villa in his first season in English football. 22 goals after a £6m move from Genk last summer, Benteke has written himself into Claret and Blue folklore after a series of dominant performances that have kept the club away from the relegation zone.

At 6" 3", Benteke has won a frightening 261 aerial duels this season, with the Belgian winning more headers than any other player currently playing in Europe. This form has prompted speculation over Benteke's future, with the 22-year-old also coming second in the PFA Young Player of the Season this year too.

2. Stefan Kießling | Bayer Leverkusen

Long standing Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kießling has been known throughout his career for his aerial prowess, and this season has been no exception. With Leverkusen sitting third in the Bundesliga, Champion League football is looking more and more likely, and Bayer will look to Kießling to fire them to Champions League glory. An astonishing 24 goals in 40 games, and a total of 169 aerial duels won this season means Kießling is well worthy of a place in this top three.

3. Andy Carroll | West Ham

When people hear this name, aerial dominance is probably the first thing that springs to mind. Andy Carroll has and always will be known for his aerial power that we have seen in the colours of Newcastle, Liverpool and now West Ham.

Seven goals in total this season has seen Carroll doing what he does best once again. Carroll's form in the second half this season means that he will be well in contention for an England international call-up over the summer. Carroll has won 205 of his aerial duels this season, putting him third in this list.
