David Luiz has told teammates his smirk form Sunday’s match was down to Manchester United fans calling him Sideshow Bob – a character from The Simpsons.

The Chelsea defender was heavily criticised when he was pictured laughing after being kicked by compatriot Rafael, which saw the right back sent off in the crucial 1-0 win for the Stamford Bridge club.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes he has had a better first season than Gunners legend Thierry Henry and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Giroud has scored 17 goals and made 11 assists in all competitions for the Emirates Stadium outfit since his move from Montpellier last summer.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie says he feels like he is floating on air since Sir Alex Ferguson’s side clinched the Premier League title last month.

The Dutchman is also set to win the Golden Boot for a second successive season but he revealed his embarrassment at the award, claiming his teammates should be receiving some recognition as well.

Younes Kaboul has claimed that Andre Villas-Boas’ appointment has brought some much-needed tactical structure to the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

The French centre-back claimed tactics were not high on the agenda under Harry Redknapp and Villas-Boas introducing more structure had been crucial.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has compared Liverpool’s controversial striker Luis Suarez to his former charge Mario Balotelli.

The Etihad Stadium chief admitted both looked for trouble in some respect but insisted not enough was made of opponents looking to goad them into a reaction.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has denied there is a problem between him and manager Tito Vilanova.

Some had pointed to the pair’s differing reactions to the Bayern Munich loss as an indicator of a strain in their relationship, but the Camp Nou centre-back said it was “phenomenal”.
